Finish setting up: your setup list

The short list that tracks your first week of setup: what is on it for your role, how items check themselves off, skipping, and hiding it.

Setup does not have to happen in one sitting. After the first-time setup, TetherLines keeps the few things worth doing in your first week on one page, headed Finish setting up, and checks them off as you go.

Open your setup list

Where to find it

  • Setup ends there. The one exception: if you add a card at checkout, you come back to your Dashboard instead.
  • On your Dashboard, a small card shows your progress, for example Setup · 2 of 5, and names the next item. Select the count or See all to open the list, or the next item to go straight to it.
  • The link at the top of this guide always opens it, including after you hide the card.

How the list works

  • The count at the top, for example 2 of 5 done, covers only the first group: the handful of items worth finishing in your first week.
  • More ways to get set up holds the rest. They are worth doing, and they never count against you.
  • Items check themselves off from what you do anywhere in TetherLines. Add a client from Clients and Add your first client is done.
  • Each item is done once. Your first logged conversations check off Log your first conversations for good; a quiet week later never un-checks it.
  • Some items open right in the list: your goals, your brokerage and split, how you're paid, and today's conversations. The rest link to the page where the work happens, and most have a guide beside them.
  • A few items can be skipped: adding past deals, lead sources, putting TetherLines on your phone, and an agent's first appointment. Select Skip, and the item counts as handled. Undo skip brings it back.
  • An item that needs the Team plan shows Opens when your Team plan is active. in place of an action. It is not counted until it opens.

What is on your list

The list depends on your role and, for account owners, on whether you work solo or run a team.

  • Solo agents: your goals for the year, Your brokerage and split, Start your trial while the account is on a free trial, Log your first conversations, and Add your first client. Under More ways to get set up: Add this year's closed deals, Put TetherLines on your phone, Your lead sources, and Add a coach.
  • Team leaders: your goals for the year, Your brokerage and split, Start your trial while the account is on a free trial, How you're paid, and Invite your team. Once agents are on the team, Each agent's commission and Each agent's goals appear under More ways to get set up with a count, such as 2 of 3, alongside your first conversations, past deals, lead sources, your phone, Set what each role can do, and Add a coach.
  • Agents and Lead Buyer's Agents: your goals for the year, Log your first conversations, and Add your first client. Under More ways to get set up: Set your first appointment and Put TetherLines on your phone.
  • ISAs: Set your weekly activity goals, Log your first conversations, and Set your first appointment. Under More ways to get set up: Put TetherLines on your phone.
  • Transaction coordinators: Add a transaction for an agent and, once agents are on the team, Check each agent's commission settings. Under More ways to get set up: Put TetherLines on your phone.
  • Admins: Invite your team, Your lead sources, and, once agents are on the team, Check each agent's commission settings. Under More ways to get set up: Add this year's closed deals, Put TetherLines on your phone, and Add a coach.

In December, everyone with goals also sees next year's goals on the list. Goals don't carry over to a new year; with next year's set, your rings keep working on January 1.

A few items in detail

  • Your goals: a team leader's goals are their own production only, because the team's target adds up each agent's goal. If you run the team and don't sell yourself, check I don't carry my own clients. The item counts as done, and no personal goal is added to the team's total.
  • Your brokerage and split: the same questions as setup, with the receipt that shows what happens to a $10,000 commission. Until it is set, Earnings on your deals won't include what goes to your brokerage. See Configure team splits and commission profiles.
  • How you're paid: how the team's share is counted, and what a new agent keeps on buyer deals and on their own listings. It is worth doing before you invite anyone: once you have filled in what a new agent keeps, each Agent or Lead Buyer's Agent you invite starts with a commission profile built from it.
  • Invite your team opens Settings, Team Members. It checks off once anyone else is on the account. See Add team members and assign roles.
  • Log your first conversations asks how many conversations you had today and saves them the same way the Conversations page does.
  • Set what each role can do opens Settings, Permissions, where each role's capabilities are set. It checks off once you save a change there, or when you select Keep the defaults; Review again takes that back. See Set what each role can do.
  • Add a coach opens Settings, Coaching, where a coach is invited or given a team. It checks off once a coach is assigned or an invitation is out, or when you select Not using a coach. See Coach your team from the Coaching page.

Start your trial

Only the account owner sees this item, and only while the account is on a free trial. Start free trial opens a secure checkout. After you add a card you come back to your Dashboard, which reads Card added. Your trial runs to followed by the date. If you leave checkout without adding a card, you come back here to No card added yet. Start your trial whenever you're ready. If billing is not open for your account yet, TetherLines says so, and you can keep using it as normal.

Hide the list

Select Hide this list, on the Dashboard card (an X on a phone) or at the bottom of the setup page, and the card stops appearing. Nothing is lost: items keep checking themselves off, and the list is still at the link at the top of this guide. To bring the card back, open the list and select Show it on the dashboard. While the list is hidden, the Dashboard no longer opens on Since you started.

The card also goes away on its own once everything counted is done.
