Sales tax on your invoice
Prices are before sales tax; where it applies, it is added at checkout and shown as its own line on every invoice.
The prices on the pricing page and in the Billing & Seats tab are before sales tax. Where a state taxes software subscriptions, the tax is added on top and shown separately, the same way it would be on any other business purchase.
How it is calculated
Sales tax follows your billing address, which is collected at checkout. Stripe, our payment processor, works out whether your state and locality tax a subscription like this one and at what rate, and adds that amount to the charge. The checkout page shows the tax before you confirm, and every invoice carries it as its own line.
TetherLines is based in Utah, so Utah accounts are charged Utah sales tax from the first invoice. Other states are added as the law requires; nothing changes on your side when that happens, the invoice simply shows the tax line.
Business tax ID
If your brokerage or team is a business with a tax ID, you can enter it at checkout. It is printed on your invoices, which is what most bookkeepers want for a software expense. It does not change the amount of tax owed.
Changing your billing address
Open Settings, then Billing & Seats, then Manage plan, and update the address in the billing portal. The next invoice uses the new address for tax. If you move states, this is the one thing to update.
Your invoices
Every invoice, with its tax line, is in the billing portal under invoice history, as a PDF. See Manage your subscription.
